A few years ago my dear friend Susan gave me a gift I absolutely loved! A basket of fresh herbs! Over the years I have reproduced that gift and given it to many special friends who have loved and appreciated it just as much as I did.
With the rebirth of nature after winter and the beautiful sight of pink blossoms and budding plants, your mood is just perked up by the freshness of it all!
Why not spread the love and give a gift of freshness!
This is how I reproduced my gift this year.
I bought some herbs from Life Style Gardens Centre, a “picket fence” container, and a few mini colourful buckets. You can find these at most florist or gift shops. I found them at the China Mall in Amalgam (really cheap in comparison to the florists)
Fill the container with some moss to add some height.
I planted the herbs into the little buckets (loved the texture of the potting soil on my fingers…. bring on Summer!) I labelled the herbs using plastic cutlery and then arranged them into the container.
It looks stunning! Woopee! I am ready to deliver a whole lot of fresh love! I know my friend will place this on her kitchen window sill and go snipping when she prepares her delicious meals!
Some Alternatives
- You could use a pretty wicker basket
- If you don’t want to do any re-planting, use the original herb containers
- You could cover the containers with some colourful cellophane
- Add some cool recipes that call for the herbs you gifting
- Add a note of the medicinal benefits of the herbs you gifting
- Replace herbs with some cute cactuses/cacti
This gift is ideal for a house-warming, a budding chef or a garden enthusiast.
Most importantly, share the love! There is a hadeeth something to the effect “Give gifts it will create mutual love” (Bukhari)

I really love this, so inspiring! I can’t wait to start re-designing mom’s garden, not so sure if she’s going to welcome the bright colours – eeek but I totally love it.. the colors are AMAZING!
Thank you Maseeha. I think she will love the colours, any garden splashed with colours always looks good.
what a lovely idea !… love the picket fence container… is that also from lifestyle garden.? thanks for all posts…really look forward to reading ur posts
Thanks Fatima. I bought the picket fence container from the China Mall in Amalgam. Think it was from Entrance A, the 3rd or 4th store on the right. Hope you find it.
