Definitely the Month of Fasting (Ramadaan) is a tradition of giving – be it your heart, a smile or even a kind word to those in need, those who live close by and to those you love.

Here are some wonderful inspirational ideas and traditions I came across to enhance and enrich this month that has dawned on us.

Inspiration 1

Let’s make a Ramadaan Chart or Calendar

You can make a weekly chart or a chart just for the whole month. Make it interactive for the kids. Drop an inspirational note for each day or  a note of how much Quraan was read or how many Sunnats were followed, make it personal and creative just for you. A calendar for Ramadaan is also a good idea for the kids, to keep track of their fasts or good deeds too. (I bought this base from Mr Price Home).

Inspiration 2

Label a pretty container call it the “SHUKR Jar” or “The Thankful Box”

Drop a note stating – “I am thankful for ……” It can be anything serious or silly. Example, I am Thankful for my eyes or water or even Naani’s Half-Moons……..

Inspiration 3

Give or exchange gifts.  Dates are a good idea or Deeni gifts will make it much more special. Gifts can be Islamic Literature, Tasbees, Miswaaks etc.

Inspirations 4

It’s a perfect time for spring cleaning.

Get the whole family to go through their clothes or shoes and prepare a box for the needy.

Inspiration 5

What about that toy box?

Help the kids’ gift wrap unused toys and let them accompany you to an orphanage to hand them out. Wrapping them up in an ordinary box is easy and economical but it will be priceless to the orphan opening it.

Inspiration 6

Bake batches of cookies or any yummy goodies and “Share It”

These activities can become treasured memories that can be practised and passed onto generations to come……..

Sisters if you have any more inspirational ideas, please share them with us.

Ramadaan Mubarak

More About Umme Fayaaz

She is more than a friend, she is my confidant, she is there to share in my happiness and she is my shoulder to cry on, she is also my buddy for some serious food indulgence.  Oh, and she has a handbag collection to die for!

Modest as always, she wishes to remain anonymous, so we shall call her Umme Fayaaz. She is the only person I know who renovates her house almost every 6 months, we talking serious renovations, with walls being broken too! Her eye for picking up the best décor buys is incredible! I love it when she visits me; my home gets a mini makeover with just a few clever tweaks. I am the one saying “So why didn’t I think of that!”
